FREE COLLEGE!

Did you know that your student may already qualify to go to college for free?  It’
s true—through Michigan’s Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)!  This program
covers tuition costs for the first two years of college for students enrolled in an
associate degree program at a community college in Michigan, plus $2000
towards credits earned in a four-year program.

Your student qualifies for TIP if he/she currently has or has had Medicaid
coverage for 24 months within any 36-month period.  Students can be identified
as early as sixth grade.  Application forms are sent to eligible students from the
Office of Scholarships and Grants through the State of Michigan, and may be
sent anytime within a student’s high school years.  To receive the TIP funds, the
forms simply need to be completed and returned.

If you are not sure either if you received the forms or if they are completed and
returned, please call 1-888-447-2687 and ask about your student’s status.
Students must have these forms completed before they graduate from high
school, so it is very important to call the Office of Scholarships and Grants
before your student’s graduation date.

Students receiving TIP funds can still be considered for other federal and state
financial aid programs and, if eligible, can use those additional funds to cover
other educational expenses such as books, supplies, transportation, or room
and board.  We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity!  Please
contact the high school guidance counselor, Tara Coffindaffer, with any
questions at (269) 561-7241
.
