Fennville Downtown Development Authority Announces Plans
Visitors and residents have been noticing big changes to the appearance of downtown Fennville in recent years. The City of Fennville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has been busy laying the groundwork for revitalization of this large parcel in the city center.
The ‘City Central’ Redevelopment project creates sites for the construction of two new mixed use multistory buildings. These buildings are slated to provide a variety of commercial spaces at the Main Street level, and residential and/or office space on the upper floors, using DDA marketing studies and strategic plans as a guideline for occupant mix. The sites will be marketed to developers in the coming months, with acceptance of proposals anticipated for later in the year. With design standards in place, all new construction will blend with the existing Downtown streetscape.
To make way for new construction, several buildings have been removed, including the former furniture store and medical office medical building at 131 W. Main and the former Main Street Dollar store building. The house at 113 W. Fennville has also been removed to create parking for City Hall and the future home of the Children’s Museum of Fennville, to be located across the street at the corner of Maple and Fennville streets.
